The short version

  • The Abyss is not an instance queue. It is open territory built from floating fragments of Reshanta, and opposing players can attack you anywhere inside it.
  • It unlocks at level 45 with no unlock quest. The lower layer wants item level 1,000 and the middle layer 3,000, and every player in your group has to meet the gate.
  • Each layer runs on its own budget of 7 hours per week, restored on Wednesday. Time you do not use does not roll over, which makes banking the wrong way of saving it.
  • The currency is Abyss Points. Kills, Abyss monsters, duty quests, sieges, corridors and supply requests all pay into it, and the Trade Shop is where it leaves.
  • Ranks are a second ladder scored on Rank Points rather than Abyss Points, and they pay a flat damage bonus plus a season title.

Two layers, two item level gates

The global client ships with two playable layers. Both open at level 45, and what actually separates them is gear score rather than level, so a fresh 45 with quest gear walks into the lower layer and nothing else.

LayerEntryInstance capBase weekly time
Chaotic Lower ReshantaLevel 45, item level 1,0001,500 characters7 hours
Chaotic Middle ReshantaLevel 45, item level 3,0001,100 characters7 hours
Chaotic Upper ReshantaNot open on the global clientNot publishedNot published

The two headcounts are the last figures the community wiki recorded before the October 21 patch, and that patch raised the caps without publishing replacements. Treat 1,500 and 1,100 as a floor rather than as a current number, and check the layer menu if a layer reads as full.

Getting in without wasting a scroll

There are two doors into Reshanta and they land you in the same place: your own faction camp at the root of the lower layer. One costs a consumable, the other costs nothing.

Leaving is free from anywhere inside, so a short scouting run costs time against the weekly budget and nothing else. That matters early: walking the lower layer once with the map open is cheaper than learning the artifact positions while a siege is live.

The weekly clock is the real gate

The entry requirement is easy to read and the time limit is the part people get wrong. Each layer hands out 7 hours a week, counted per layer rather than per account, and the countdown only runs while you are actually inside. A siege plus a corridor run plus the walk back to the artifact can take two hours, so three nights is most of the budget.

Rift Stones are the only way to buy more. They add to a separate pool instead of resetting the base counter, so the practical question before a long night is whether the layer still has base hours or whether you are about to burn a stone.

ItemAddsWhere it comes from
Lower Abyss Rift Stone1 hourConquerors of the Abyss vendor, 50,000 Kina, 7 per character per week
Lesser Lower Abyss Rift Stone30 minutesEvent and reward tables
Middle Abyss Rift Stone1 hourCrafted in Substance Morph from Reshanta Aura
Halloween rift stone1 hourHalloween merchant, 30 Pumpkin Coins, 2 per server per week

Buying all seven weekly stones costs 350,000 Kina and turns the lower layer into roughly 14 hours, which works out at 50,000 Kina per extra hour. The two season quests Spend 1 Hour in the Abyss and Defeat Guardian Lord Nahma Once pay an entry stone for free, so check those before spending Kina on the same hour twice.

Where Abyss Points come from

Points are not one faucet. The direct source is PvP, but the slow sources are the ones that quietly fund a first purchase, and they sit outside the weekly caps entirely.

  • Killing Abyss monsters, which pays PvE points against a weekly PvE cap.
  • Killing opposing players, which pays PvP points. Dying costs you points, a target sitting at zero pays nothing, and repeat kills on the same character are throttled on an hourly reset.
  • Duty quests bought from the Command Merchant with Kina: 1,000 points per lower layer quest and 2,000 per middle layer quest, with five repeats a week at most price tiers.
  • Artifact sieges and artifact binding, corridor runs, arena and battlefield matches, supply requests, and merit chests from Abyss world bosses.
  • 121 of the 161 solo Sealed Dungeons pay 1,000 Abyss Points, so routine solo content feeds the PvP track without you ever entering contested ground.

Three ceilings sit on top of that: a weekly PvE cap, a weekly PvP cap, and a season cap. Both weekly caps reset on Wednesday. Once the season cap is reached the ordinary sources stop paying even with weekly room left, and only Spacetime Rifts still trickle a small amount. Quest and supply request payouts do not count against any of the three, which is why a character who has capped still has something to do.

Artifacts decide who farms faster

Six artifacts exist across the two layers, three per layer, and holding them multiplies Abyss Point income for the whole faction. That is the reason a siege is worth attending even if you never land a killing blow.

Artifacts heldBuffAbyss Point gain
1Reshanta Artifact I+2.5%
2Artifact II+5%
3Artifact III+7.5%

Lower layer sieges run Monday, Thursday and Saturday. A Dimensional Core spawns at each artifact, the faction that lands the killing blow destroys it, and the site is then occupied through the Binding Entity, which requires Ninth-Class Soldier rank or better and enough siege contribution. Binding pays points too. If every artifact on a layer falls the siege ends early, and ownership holds until the next siege or until a server rematch moves it.

Corridors: five minutes that ignore the cap

When a siege ends, a corridor opens at each artifact and only the faction holding that artifact may enter. It is a solo instance with a five minute clock and the same item level gate as its layer: 1,000 for the lower corridor, 3,000 for the middle one. Monster points earned inside do not count against the weekly PvE cap, which is why organised factions treat the corridor as a scheduled payout rather than as optional content.

A faction that loses every artifact on a layer gets a catch-up corridor at its own camp, so a one sided siege is not a dead week for the losing side. Community reports put a single corridor at roughly 20,000 Abyss Points, which is worth more than an hour of ordinary farming if you can reach the entrance before it closes.

Sources that never touch a fight

Two of the largest point taps never require entering contested ground, and both are daily habits rather than events.

  • Supply requests: the emergency request is daily and the supply request is weekly. Neither sends you into Reshanta, so they keep paying while your weekly hours are empty.
  • Team merchant quests: roughly twelve a week, bought with Kina, each cleared by killing the monsters inside a marked zone on the map.
  • Aether collection inside the Abyss pays points on top of the aether itself, which makes a collection run worth more than a mob grind of the same length.
  • Morphing: a yellow candy in the event category pays 1,000 or 10,000 points, and the candy drops from Expedition, Conquest and Transcendence runs you were doing anyway.
  • Arena and battlefield pay 1,000 points for a third participation and 3,000 per victory, and neither counts against the Abyss weekly caps.

  • Daily emergency supply requests and the weekly supply request pay Abyss Points without ever entering the Abyss, which is the cheapest first purchase.
  • The team merchant sells weekly quests, around twelve a week, and each one is cleared by killing the mobs inside a marked zone on the map.
  • Artifact capture pays for participation alone, and the corridor behind a captured site is quoted at 20,000 to 24,000 points in about two minutes.
  • Aether collection inside the Abyss, the hourly Shugo festival and arena play all pay: 1,000 points for a third participation and 3,000 per victory.
  • Morphing a yellow candy in the event category can pay 1,000 or 10,000 Abyss Points, and the candy drops from Expedition, Conquest and Transcendence runs.

The feather loop pays twice

Every island in the lower layer has feathers on it. Handing them in at the faction base monolith is not a side quest: the exchange levels the monolith, which adds PvP stats, and it returns a PvP Prophecy Crystal that opens a separate point track. A player who skips the loop is fighting with worse numbers in the same zone, and it is also the only productive thing a fresh level 45 in quest gear can do on a contested map.

  • Confirms both gates at once, level 45 and item level 1,000, and shows the entry point inside the Abyss tab of the game menu rather than through an NPC quest.
  • Walks the feather loop: collect feathers across the islands, hand them in at the faction base monolith, and take a PvP Prophecy Crystal that adds PvP stats and a separate point track.
  • Buys the Abyss Points quest from the trade officer and kills the purple-marked quest mobs instead of farming random monsters, which he calls inefficient.
  • Describes the artifact core as a small solo dungeon that only opens for the faction holding the site, which is the corridor described on this page.
  • Names flight stamina as the escape tool: drop altitude, press V, climb away. The chasing player loses the vertical.

Ranks are a separate ladder

Rank Points are scored inside your own class rather than against the whole server, so a Cleric competes with Clerics. You need 1,500 Rank Points to appear on the board at all, the board updates hourly, and the season that is live now runs from September 30 to December 16, 2026. Rank pays the same percentage into PvP damage, PvP damage tolerance and Abyss PvE damage, and if you also hold an arena buff only the higher of the two applies.

RankClass placesMinimum Rank PointsBonus per stat
Supreme Commander120,000,000+5.0%
Commander213,000,000+4.6%
Marshal3 to 49,000,000+4.4%
General5 to 66,000,000+4.2%
Ninth-Class Soldier801 to 1,0003,000+1.2%

The last row is the one with a concrete unlock. Ninth-Class Soldier is the rank that lets you bind a lower layer artifact and buy Silver Medal of Merit, and that medal gates the Centurion appearance set, so a player who only wants the outfit has a target measured in thousands of points rather than tens of millions. Season titles are mailed when you first enter the Abyss in the following season, and the top four places also receive a transformation.

What to buy first in the Trade Shop

The Trade Shop tab opens as soon as the Abyss menu does, and both factions see the same list. Prices are fixed except for the step-up rows, where each tier you buy costs more than the one before it.

  1. Lesser Abyssal Manastone and Lesser Abyssal Soulstone first, at 1,000 and 2,000 points with 50 of each per week. Nothing else at that price improves a fresh character as much.
  2. Daevanion Crystal: Azphel next, in four steps of 10,000, 20,000, 40,000 and 80,000 points. It is the clearest reason to bank points instead of buying cosmetics early.
  3. Potential Stone: Abyss (Unique) once you are gearing seriously, at 25,000 to 100,000 in four steps, capped at eight a week and shared across every character on the server.
  4. Silver Medal of Merit at 10,000 points and 10 a week, but only if you are chasing Centurion appearance pieces or the medal itself.
  5. Appearance last. Decanus runs 45,300 per piece, Centurion 147,100 plus 40 Silver Medals, and the two wing items cost 200,000 and 800,000 points.

What actually pays for the shopping list

The shop is not expensive, the problem is that the obvious income is the worst one. A pass across the map changes the arithmetic more than an extra hour of fighting.

  • The Abyss supply request pays 1,600 Abyss Points and 430 enhancement stones, which is the cheapest repeatable income but also the reason players say points are slow.
  • World bosses are the real payout: hunting Supreme Commander Logta and Soul Lord Kashapa across the map and handing the kills in returns around 21,000 points, more than ten supply requests for one trip.
  • The NPCs inside the Abyss pay points and drop pets, so a resource run doubles as a farm instead of costing you a session.
  • Oath coins are a second currency from the same content and they feed a seasonal shop, which is why the point total is not the only number to watch.
  • The store itself is for small abyssal manastones and soulstones, stigma shards, Daevanion crystals and Asfel for the PvP tree, plus the medals that raise class rank.

A weekly routine that fits the budget

  1. 1
Wednesday: read the counterBoth layers reset together. Check how many hours survived, because stones bought before the reset are the classic waste.
  2. 2
Before a siege: bank an hourBanking has two meanings here. Refill the base counter first, and only build on it with stones once the base is genuinely empty.
  3. 3
At the siege: bind, do not just fightContribution and binding pay points and decide the faction buff. A Ninth-Class Soldier who binds one artifact is worth more than a player who trades kills for an hour.
  4. 4
After the siege: corridor firstThe corridor is five minutes, ignores the PvE cap and closes when the artifact changes hands. Run it before the shopping trip.
  5. 5
Spend the duty commandsCommand quests are bought with Kina, not points, and each one pays a flat 1,000 or 2,000. They are the cheapest points in the game per minute.
  6. 6
Park the restIf the week is short, use the leftover hour on the layer where the next artifact siege is scheduled rather than on whichever layer you happen to be standing in.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What level do you need for the Abyss in AION 2?

Level 45, with no unlock quest to complete. The lower layer also needs item level 1,000 and the middle layer item level 3,000, and the gate applies to every player in the group rather than to the leader.

How many Abyss hours do you get per week?

Seven hours per layer, so fourteen if you use both, restored on Wednesday. Unused time does not carry over, and rift stones add to a separate pool rather than extending the base counter.

How do I get into the Abyss?

Use the Abyss Portal NPC in the Garden of the Illusion God for Elyos or Black Claw Village for Asmodians and pay one Return Scroll, or open the Abyss menu and press Enter for free. Leaving costs nothing.

Can you lose Abyss Points?

Yes. Dying in PvP costs points, although a target who already sits at zero pays you nothing. Repeat kills on the same character pay less on an hourly reset, so farming one player does not work.

Do Abyss Points reset every week?

The points do not. The weekly PvE and PvP caps reset every Wednesday, and a season cap sits above both. Once the season cap is reached only Spacetime Rifts and uncapped sources such as quests still pay.

Is the Abyss worth doing if I do not like PvP?

The shop side is, because 121 solo Sealed Dungeons pay 1,000 Abyss Points each and the manastones at 1,000 and 2,000 points are cheap upgrades. You can fund a first purchase without ever fighting a player.

What is Chaotic Upper Reshanta?

The third layer listed on the Abyss map, built from the edges of the Bloodflame Nebula with fortress ruins on it. It is not open on the global client and no requirement or timer has been published for it.
