What is confirmed
- The global client contains 207 pets across five types: Fera 65, Natura 48, Varian 46, Cogni 41 and Special 7. Mounts are the same system, so travelling by mount is riding a pet you already own.
- Pets contribute to character statistics through a collection and evolution structure, not only as cosmetic companions.
- Transformation items exist as physical objects. Transformation candies appear in the hidden cube loot table, which confirms that transformation is an item-driven effect rather than a class ability.
- Pets and mounts appear in planning tools alongside skills and equipment, which is consistent with them being a build decision rather than a purely cosmetic one.
The pet layers you will meet
| Layer | What it does | Where it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Collection | Unlocking pets adds to your permanent totals | Long-term account power, similar in spirit to the feather system |
| Type level and slots | Owning pets raises the type level, and each level from 1 to 9 opens an option slot | Sets the quality ceiling of the options you can roll on that type |
| Slots | A limited number of pets are active at once | The decision that turns a collection into a build choice |
| Transformation | Item-driven transformation effects | Situational power and appearance changes |
Souls: five per pet, no exceptions
Every one of the 207 pets costs exactly five souls to unlock, and a soul is a separate item rather than a currency. Most souls are dropped by a matching monster in the world, some pets are sold as items through a random shop, and a duplicate pet item automatically converts into a single soul, so a duplicate pull is not wasted.
Type levels decide the quality you can roll
Owning pets raises that type level, and each type level from one to nine opens an option slot on that type. Rerolling a slot costs four soul crystals of that type plus one thousand Kinah, and the quality distribution of the reroll is set by the type level. That is why a high type level is worth more than many reroll attempts made at a low one.
| Type level | Common | Rare | Epic | Unique | Heroic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 90% | 10% | - | - | - |
| 4 | 50% | 45% | 5% | - | - |
| 7 | 35% | 34% | 30% | 1% | - |
| 9 | 25% | 25% | 39% | 10% | 1% |
| 10 | 20% | 30% | 30% | 15% | 5% |
Milestones and transformation
- Collection milestones start at five pets and continue every ten up to five hundred. Most pay 100 bound Soul Crystals, and every fiftieth pays ten bound Empathy Candy instead.
- The client holds 207 pets, so the reachable milestones run from five to two hundred, worth roughly 1,700 soul crystals and 40 empathy candy.
- Reaching two hundred species unlocks the title Rule All Creation.
- Every pet except the seven Special ones can be transformed with Empathy Candy. Special pets sit outside the system: no soul drop, no type bonus, no transformation.
- Completing a type system unlocks Unbound by Genus, a title granting a 4.5 percent PvE damage bonus while equipped.
How to approach pets without wasting materials
- Collect first and evolve later. The collection bonus rewards breadth, and evolving the wrong pet early locks materials into a slot you may replace.
- Decide your active slots around your build. If your class is fragile, a defensive pet matters more than a cosmetic favourite.
- Keep transformation items rather than consuming them immediately. They are consumables, and the right moment for one is a group objective rather than a quest mob.
- Check whether a pet feeds a crafting or gathering bonus before you bench it. Utility bonuses are easy to overlook.
- Do not chase a single rare pet at the cost of collection progress; the breadth bonus is the predictable part of this system.
Pets, mounts and travel
Mounts matter beyond appearance because travel time is a real cost in a game with unreliably automatic pathing. Given that the reliable way to move is to teleport from the map, the best mount is the one you can summon from wherever you happen to be standing, and the best pets are the ones you actually keep active. That is a less exciting answer than a tier list, but it is the one that shows up in your playtime.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How many pets and mounts are in AION 2?
Launch coverage describes more than 200 obtainable mounts and pets, though the exact split between the two categories is not published.
What is pet transformation in AION 2?
Transformation is an item-driven effect. Transformation candies appear in the hidden cube loot table, which confirms the effect comes from consumable items rather than from a class ability.
Do pets give combat stats?
Yes, through ownership rather than through the pet you have active. Type levels, option slots and collection milestones all count how many pets you own, so a broad set of common pets gives more statistics than one rare mount.
