Mounts are the pet system, and there are 207 of them
AION 2 does not have a separate mount system. The unlock items are literally named Pet, and riding is riding a pet you own. The client contains 207 pets across five types, and the type is the only thing that changes their behaviour.
| Type | Count | What the type is for |
|---|---|---|
| Fera | 65 | The movement type. It is the only type that grants a ground vehicle speed bonus, at plus one, plus two or plus three depending on the pet |
| Natura | 48 | Stamina, which is the resource that sprinting and riding consume |
| Varian | 46 | Carries a sprint cost attribute, so it is about sustaining movement rather than raw speed |
| Cogni | 41 | A fourth type with its own attribute profile |
| Special | 7 | Includes the Black Dragon. Special pets have no soul drop and no type bonus |
What actually makes you faster
- The Fera type, which is the only ground speed bonus in the system. If movement is your goal, collect Fera pets.
- The Natura type, which raises Stamina and therefore how long you can keep sprinting or riding before you stop.
- The Varian type, which carries a sprint cost attribute and changes how expensive sustained movement is.
- Map teleportation, which beats every mount for crossing a zone regardless of what you are riding.

AION 2 Pet & Mount Guide: Pet Souls, Genus Insight & Global Changes
Anders · uploaded 2026-09-27 · 18:17
- There are five genera, Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special, and every genus caps at level 10.
- Global client hidden chests guarantee 1,000 soul crystals per chest opened with a key, which the Korean version does not do.
- Completing the collection pushes you into Spacetime Rifts and enemy territory, because the harder souls are not available in friendly zones.
Anders · English captionsThree global-only changes worth knowing
- Hidden chests in the global client guarantee 1,000 soul crystals per chest opened with a key. The Korean version does not do this, so the collection is meaningfully cheaper here than the regional guides imply.
- The hardest souls are not in friendly territory. Filling out the last of the collection pushes you into Spacetime Rifts and enemy zones, which turns a farming task into a PvP risk.
- A subscription adds pet auto-collection from the subscription store, so a paid account can pick souls up passively rather than by hand.
Your first mount is a level 10 quest reward
Both factions get a level 10 Episode quest that hands over a choice of three pets: Fossa, Armadon or Tog. The Elyos quest is All Geared Up and the Asmodian equivalent is Gathering Essentials. All three ride identically, so the choice is purely cosmetic, and any of them starts your Fera type progress if you pick with the type in mind.
Unlocking a pet takes exactly five souls
Every one of the 207 pets needs five souls, with no exceptions. Souls are separate items, one per pet, and 158 of the pets have their soul dropped by a matching monster in the world. The remaining routes are the random shop, which sells 200 pet items, and two currency vendors. A duplicate pet item automatically converts into one soul, so a duplicate from a random shop is not wasted.
The four-step soul farm
- Pick the pet you want and note its type, because the type bonus is the only mechanical difference.
- Open its entry and read the drop table, sorted by drop rate and monster level.
- Collect five souls from the matching monsters.
- Register the pet, which raises that type level and your total collection count at the same time.
Where a few souls actually drop
| Pet | Type | Soul source | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fossa | Fera | Patrolling Fossa (Lv25), Daeva Renegade Fossa (Lv24), Tamed Beast (Lv34) | Southern Tolbas Forest in Verteron, Uruthumheim and Basfelt Ruins in Altgard |
| Klaw | Cogni | Wandering Klaw (Lv19) | Destroyed Abyss Gate in Verteron |
| Kailin | Fera | Ellun River Kailin (Lv18) and several Asmodian variants | Ellun River Midstream, and Altgard |
| Skyray | Fera | 12 variants across Lv10 to Lv40 | Western Cantas Valley and other Verteron areas, plus Altgard |
| Sparkie | Fera | 6 variants across Lv18 to Lv33 | Verteron |
Type levels and the genus reroll
Owning pets raises that type level, and each type level from one to nine opens an option slot. Rerolling a slot is the genesis reroll, and it costs four soul crystals of that type plus one thousand Kinah per attempt. The quality of what you roll is driven by the type level, so a higher type level is a direct upgrade to the ceiling of your options rather than a cosmetic milestone.
| Type level | Common | Rare | Epic | Unique | Heroic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 90% | 10% | - | - | - |
| 4 | 50% | 45% | 5% | - | - |
| 7 | 35% | 34% | 30% | 1% | - |
| 9 | 25% | 25% | 39% | 10% | 1% |
| 10 | 20% | 30% | 30% | 15% | 5% |
The quality gap is not small. On a Fera first slot, the Penetration option rolls between 80 and 160 at Unique and between 100 and 200 at Heroic, which is why pushing a type level before rerolling is worth more than rerolling early and often. Completing the system unlocks a title, Unbound by Genus, which grants a 4.5 percent PvE damage bonus while equipped.
Collection milestones pay in crystals
Pet collection milestones start at five pets and continue every ten up to five hundred. Most milestones pay one hundred bound Soul Crystals, and every fiftieth pet pays ten bound Empathy Candy instead. The client holds 207 pets, which puts the reachable milestones at five through two hundred and works out at roughly 1,700 soul crystals and 40 empathy candy. Reaching two hundred species unlocks the title Rule All Creation.
Transformation is for the common pets
Every pet except the seven Special ones can be transformed using Empathy Candy. Special pets sit outside the system entirely: they have no soul drop, they do not count toward type bonuses, and they are the answer to why a pet that looks prestigious can be mechanically inert. If you are collecting for stats rather than for looks, the common pets are where the returns are.
The principle behind all of it: breadth wins
Type levels, option slots and collection milestones all count how many pets you own rather than how rare they are. A large set of ordinary Fera pets therefore outperforms a single prestigious mount, and the same ownership-based logic applies to the wing, skin and title collections elsewhere in the game. That is the single most useful thing to know before spending on the pet system: buy breadth, not a trophy.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a mount in AION 2?
Mounts are pets. Your first one is a level 10 Episode quest reward, choosing between Fossa, Armadon and Tog. Everything else is unlocked by collecting five souls, buying a pet item, or using the two currency vendors.
What is the fastest mount in AION 2?
There is no fastest mount. Every implemented mount uses the same run, sprint, glide and boosted glide figures. Only the Fera type grants a ground speed bonus, at up to plus three.
How many souls does a pet need?
Exactly five, for all 207 pets without exception. Souls are separate items dropped by matching monsters, and a duplicate pet item converts into one soul.
Should I chase a rare mount?
No. Type levels, option slots and collection milestones all count owned pets, so a broad set of common Fera pets gives more stats than one rare mount.
