What the Clash Rune actually gives you
A Clash Rune is a Special-grade Rune, which means it is a small stat package rather than a large one. It sits in the Runes accessory slot alongside the rest of the accessory categories, and its numbers at the base level are deliberately modest. The value is not the size of any single stat. It is that a Clash Rune is one of the cheapest sources of gear score available to a new character, it comes from quests rather than from a shop, and two of them are enough to fill every rune slot you have at the start.
| Clash Rune stat at +0 | Value |
|---|---|
| PvE Damage Tolerance | +0.5% |
| PvE Damage Boost | +0.5% |
| Penetration | +100 |
| Combat Speed | +1% |
| Multi-Hit Chance | +1% |
How many Clash Runes you can get, and where each one comes from
Up to four Clash Runes are available, and every one of them is a quest reward rather than a shop purchase. The chests are distributed across regional quests on Verteron and Altgard, which is the same regional quest list that unlocks progressively as you push a character forward. That distribution is the reason a player can finish the first two chests in an afternoon and then find the third and fourth locked behind main story progress for days.
| Documented regional quest | Zone | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Another Survivor | Altgard | Clash Rune Chest (Bound) x1 |
| Cursed Blue Mineral | Verteron | Clash Rune Chest (Bound) x1 |
| Fallout | Altgard | Clash Rune Chest (Bound) x1 |
Those three names are the ones published in the structured item data. The fourth is claimed through a regional quest that is split into two parts, where the first part has to be completed before the second part will award a chest. The order in which a given character unlocks these is not fixed, because the regional list opens in waves and a character who ignored side quests on the way through will see a different list than one who cleared everything.
| Rune | How it is claimed | What it takes to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| First | One regional quest chain, ending at a chest in a small dungeon | Available early on Verteron and Altgard |
| Second | A two-part regional quest; part one must be finished before part two pays out | Same regional quest list |
| Third and fourth | Two more regional quests further down the Regional list | Gear score 1,000, then the level 45 main story quest up to the Ascension Meter stage |
- 1Open the map and switch to the Regional tabThe chests are not on the main map or the area map. Press the map key, then select the Regional filter. This is the single most common reason a player concludes a chest does not exist.
- 2Read the reward, not just the quest nameQuest names in the Regional list do not mention Clash Runes. The reward field does. Scan the Regional list for the Clash Rune Chest entry rather than looking for a quest that sounds rune-related.
- 3Follow the marker and finish the chainSome of these quests are short walks with a fight at the end. The chest is the reward of the final step, not of the quest being accepted, so a quest left unfinished is a chest not claimed.
- 4Come back after the Ascension MeterIf two quests are greyed out and you cannot find a replacement, check your gear score and main story progress. The third and fourth chests are not available to a fresh character no matter how many regional quests they clear.

- Opens the map, switches to the Regional tab, and takes the Cursed Blue Mineral quest, whose marker sits next to the wind merchant on the map.
- The quest ends inside a small dungeon with a short conversation before the chest is handed over, so the reward arrives at the end of the chain rather than on acceptance.
- The first Clash Rune comes out at item level 40, and the run stops there with the author explicitly declining to enhance it yet.

- The second chest comes from a two-part regional quest: part one has to be completed before part two will award the rune chest.
- Both runes obtained this way are identical, so there is no decision about which one goes into which of the two slots.
- The author enhances the freshly received rune on a stated 60 percent success rate and loses it on that attempt, captured on camera. It is the clearest available evidence that a failed Clash Rune enhancement destroys the rune.
- The author's own surprise, that he did not expect a newly obtained quest item to be destroyed, is the misjudgement most new players share.
StingKnight · English captionsEnhancing a Clash Rune can destroy it
This is the part of the system that catches new players, and it is not folklore. Clash Runes have their own enhancement track running from +0 to +10, separate from the gear enhancement system, and a failed attempt on that track can consume the rune instead of merely wasting the materials. The practical consequence is that a rune is not a permanent stat stick the way a piece of enchanted armour is. It is an item you can lose.

Aion 2 — How to Unlock the Rune Accessory Slot | Easy Step-by-Step Guide
👑MelechGachaGaming · uploaded 2025-11-26 · 1:46
- Answers where the rune accessory itself comes from: the chest is a regional quest reward, and this creator's came from the Cursed Blue Mineral quest line.
- Opens the chest on camera to show it pays out the rune plus a set of upgrade materials, so a single chest feeds both the slot and its enhancement.
- States that the success percentage decreases as the rune is upgraded, that this had not been noticed before starting, and that the first attempt failed on camera.
- That capture is the second independent on-camera loss of a Clash Rune on this site, and it comes from a different creator and a different month than the other one.
👑MelechGachaGaming · English captionsNobody agrees on the enhancement curve, and both videos show it failing
Here is the uncomfortable part. The break risk is documented, but the shape of the curve is not, and the five accounts below contradict each other. That is worth stating plainly rather than picking the most convenient number, because the practical advice comes out the same either way: stop early, and never risk the only copy you have.
| Source | What it reports about the enhancement curve |
|---|---|
| StingKnight, captured on camera | A stated 60 percent success rate at level two, and the rune was destroyed on that attempt |
| MelechGachaGaming, captured on camera | The success percentage decreases as the rune is upgraded, this was noticed for the first time when the attempt was made, and the first attempt failed |
| U4N guide, stated regional basis | Enhancement is guaranteed through level three and success rates drop sharply after that, with three recommended as the stopping point |
| Two published gear-score guides | Both advise keeping Clash Runes at +2 and explicitly not upgrading past that point |
| Player forum report | A quest Clash Rune destroyed outright, with the only other sources given as side quests and shops |
- Bank a spare before you enhance anything. Two chests give you two identical runes, so the second is the insurance policy and the first is where you learn the risk.
- Keep the Clash Rune Enhance Scrolls that come with each chest. A chest pays out the rune and a set of scrolls, so one chest feeds both the slot and its enhancement.
- Do not confuse this track with gear enhancement. Weapon and armour enhancement has its own pity model documented separately, and that model does not apply to a Clash Rune.
- Confirm the rune slot before you confirm anything else. Slotting is described as making the rune untradeable, and that part is not reversible.
- Never enhance a rune you cannot replace. On a fresh character with one rune and no spare, there is no sensible time to roll the enhancement at all.

AION 2 Global Clash Rune Guide — Get It, Slot It & Upgrade to +3
U4N · uploaded 2026-10-03 · 3:00
- Frames the rune as a PvP piece aimed at players being stun-chained in the Abyss, and states on its own that it is based on the earlier Korean and Taiwan versions rather than the global client.
- Lists three acquisition routes and says there is no known crafting recipe: the premium shop, faction world boss drops at a low rate, and faction reward tracks, with some seasons offering it for faction currency or glory points.
- States that enhancement is guaranteed through level three and that success rates drop sharply after that, and recommends stopping at three for characters short on materials.
- Warns that the upgrade path uses Rune Polishing Stones, that the special slot is separate from attack, defence and utility runes, and that a slotted rune normally becomes untradeable, so confirming the slot is effectively irreversible.
- Closes by noting that rotations, drop rates, stats and binding rules vary by region and patch and should be verified on your own server, which is the caveat this site's own conflict table is built on.
U4N · English captionsTwo different runes are both being called Clash Rune
A second and separate problem. One of the guides that surfaced this round describes a rune that shares almost none of the properties above, and it says so itself: it opens by stating that it is based on the earlier Korean and Taiwan versions, and its stat orientation, slot count, upgrade material and binding rule all differ from what the global client's structured item data reports. Rather than quietly merging the two into one confident description, both are set out here.
| Detail | Global client, per structured item data | Earlier Korean and Taiwan version, per U4N |
|---|---|---|
| Primary value | PvE throughput: damage boost, damage tolerance, penetration, combat speed, multi-hit chance | PvP resistance to stuns and knockbacks, framed against being stun-chained in the Abyss |
| Slots | Two Clash Runes equippable at once | One special rune in early builds, swapped per fight |
| Upgrade material | Clash Rune Enhance Scroll, alongside Kina and Enhance Stones | Rune Polishing Stones |
| Crafting | Not documented as craftable | Explicitly no known recipe |
| Trading | Bound to the character that earned it | Normally becomes untradeable once slotted and confirmed |
| Other sources | Regional quest chests, coin shop, season shops, Phantasmal Fragments | Premium shop, faction world boss drops at a low rate, faction reward tracks, seasonal currency |
Clash Runes and gear score
Each equipped Clash Rune is worth 40 gear score, which makes the pair worth 80. That figure matters because gear score is the gate on more than cosmetics: the third and fourth runes do not unlock until the character reaches 1,000 gear score, and published progression routes routinely use the first two Clash Runes as the cheapest way to close the last stretch of that gap for a new character. The loop is therefore deliberate. Take the two early chests, equip both runes, and the stat package is small but the score contribution is what actually moves you toward the next gate.
Where else Clash Runes come from
| Source | Cost or condition | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Regional quest chests | Free, one-time | Up to four; the intended route |
| Coin shop, in-game menu | Oath Coin | Listed as a direct purchase |
| Season Shop, Elyos | 4,000 Oath Coin | Faction-specific storefront |
| Season Shop, Asmodians | 4,000 Oath Coin | Faction-specific storefront |
| Phantasmal Fragments | Fragment currency | A separate exchange route from the coin shops |
Clash Rune rules worth knowing
- You can equip two Clash Runes at the same time and no more. The two you obtain from quests are identical, so there is no decision to make about which one goes where.
- Clash Runes have a base item level of 40 and can be enhanced to +10, so they are an early-game item that stays relevant as a slot rather than being replaced outright.
- Enhancement consumes a Clash Rune Enhance Scroll in addition to Kina and Enhance Stones, so the rune scroll is a separate material from the gear stones.
- Runes are quest rewards, so they are bound to the character that earned them. Buying one from a shop does not create a spare you can trade.
- The Rune slot itself is a separate unlock from the rune. Make sure the accessory slot is open before assuming a chest went missing.

How To Obtain Even More Clash Runes (3rd & 4th) – Aion 2
StingKnight · uploaded 2026-10-03 · 1:00
- The third and fourth Clash Runes are gated behind reaching 1,000 gear score and then progressing the level 45 main story quest up to the Ascension Meter stage.
- At that point the Regional quest list unlocks a batch of new quests, two of which award a further Clash Rune Chest.
- Both quests are short, described as auto-pathing and killing a few enemies, with no further gating once the quest has been found.

Frequently asked questions
How many Clash Runes can you get in AION 2?
Up to four from regional quests, two per character equipped at a time. They are handed out by regional quests on Verteron and Altgard rather than bought, and the third and fourth are locked behind gear score 1,000 and the level 45 main story quest rather than behind quest count.
What does a Clash Rune give you?
At +0 it gives +0.5% PvE Damage Boost, +0.5% PvE Damage Tolerance, +100 Penetration, +1% Combat Speed and +1% Multi-Hit Chance. Its larger practical contribution is 40 gear score per equipped rune, which is what makes the first pair worth collecting early.
Can you enhance a Clash Rune without risking it?
No. Clash Runes use their own enhancement system, separate from gear enhancement, and a failed attempt can destroy the rune. Two unrelated creators have now lost one on camera while filming on this site, from different channels and four months apart. Published gear-score guides from two more channels both advise stopping at +2 for the same reason.
Is Clash Rune enhancement really guaranteed up to +3?
One guide says so, and it is the clearest statement of a stopping point anywhere, but it also says it is working from the earlier Korean and Taiwan versions. The two videos on this page that actually attempted an enhancement both failed below +3, and two published guides recommend stopping at +2. Treat +3 as unverified on the global client rather than as a promise.
Why does the same rune have different stats on different sites?
Because two different items are being described. The global client's Clash Rune is a PvE stat package with two equippable slots and an Enhance Scroll as its upgrade material. A guide describing the earlier Korean and Taiwan versions calls it a PvP CC-resistance item with one special slot and Rune Polishing Stones, and says so in its own opening. Both are set out side by side above, with the in-game tooltip named as the tiebreaker.
Are Clash Runes tradeable or bound?
Bound. They are quest rewards, so they belong to the character that earned them. The regional guide goes further and describes a slotted rune as normally becoming untradeable at the point you confirm the slot, which makes that confirmation effectively irreversible rather than a reversible swap.
How do I get a Clash Rune?
Open the map, switch to the Regional tab, and take the regional quests whose reward is a Clash Rune Chest. Published quest data lists Another Survivor and Fallout on Altgard and Cursed Blue Mineral on Verteron, and one further chest comes from a two-part regional quest.
Are Clash Runes worth enhancing?
On a first rune, no. Every independent source recommends stopping at +2 and keeping a spare, because the enhancement can consume the item. Once you have four runes and spare scrolls, the decision becomes a normal materials-versus-stat trade rather than a risk to your only copy.
What is the difference between a Clash Rune and a Devotion Rune?
Both are Runes, the accessory category that sits alongside Amulets, Belts, Bracelets, Earrings, Necklaces and Rings. Clash Rune is the quest reward and its package leans PvE, carrying damage boost, tolerance, penetration, combat speed and multi-hit chance. Devotion Rune is the separate rune players pair with it for PvP output, and it is tied to a different progression path.
